Most people never ask how their ring will get resized. They assume they already know the answer: you hand it over, it gets sent away, and you go a month without it. We've had clients wear their ring with a ring guard for months, just so they wouldn't have to give it up. Nobody told them there was another way.

The short answer

At Vero Diamonds, your ring is never sent out. Ring resizing, polishing, tightening claws and rhodium plating are all done in our Ottawa workshop, by the people who made your ring, while you wait. It's all covered for life under our lifetime warranty. You book a time, and you leave wearing your ring. Our mission is clear: to maintain your ring.

How long does ring resizing take?

Not weeks. Not even same-day. While you wait.

You book an appointment at a time that works for you, and we size your ring right there. It's by appointment, so you can't just walk in. But once you're here, you don't leave without it.

Why doesn't your ring get sent out?

Because we don't believe in it. We built this business around the workshop where your ring is made. That's also why we only do engagement rings and wedding bands. Everything we make, we can look after, here, for life.

Most jewellery repair means your ring goes to someone else's bench. Ours comes back to the one it was made on.

What does the lifetime warranty cover?

Everything that comes from wearing your ring:

  • Resizing
  • Prongs and claws, checked and tightened
  • Polishing
  • Rhodium plating for white gold
  • Accidental damage
  • Cleaning and insurance appraisals

Just don't go rock climbing with it. Honestly, that's the main thing. There's no extra cost for this warranty, and there are no hidden fees.

Should I resize my ring right away?

Not always. Your fingers aren't static. Every hand is different, and everybody fluctuates, and not just between summer and winter. Have a glass of wine or some salty food the night before, and your ring will feel tight in the morning.

So my advice is simple: wear your ring first. Learn your fingers. If it spins too much, we can add sizing beads, small bumps on the inside of the band. We call them speed bumps. They keep the ring sitting straight without changing the size.

How do I get my Vero ring serviced?

Resizing, polishing, tightening claws, rhodium plating: every service works the same way, and every one is done while you wait.

  1. Book a time. We work by appointment, so you can't just walk in. Book online at a time that works for you.
  2. Come to the workshop. We look at your ring with you, in our Ottawa workshop, and tell you what it needs.
  3. Wait while we work on it. Your ring is looked after by the same people who made it. It never leaves the building.
  4. Leave wearing it. No cost, no weeks without your ring. It's covered for life.

If it's a resize: wear your ring for a while first. Your fingers change day to day, so make sure the fit is really off, not just a salty dinner the night before. And if the ring is spinning rather than tight, ask about sizing beads. Sometimes a couple of speed bumps inside the band are all you need.

What rings can't be resized?

Some rings are harder. Eternity bands, with diamonds all the way around, can't be sized the usual way, but there are solutions, and we'll talk you through them. There's an outside chance a ring can't be resized, but we almost always find a solution.

Do you resize rings from other jewellers?

No. We only look after rings we made. We know exactly how they were built, which is how we can stand behind them for life.

From the workshop

"My ring was resized in 20 minutes the day after the proposal. I haven't taken it off since." — Jantzen M.

What I'd do

Before you buy a ring anywhere, ask one question: when it needs resizing, where does it go, and how long will I be without it? If the answer is a few weeks, keep looking.

If you're still working out what a ring costs overall, start here. And if you're in Ottawa, book a time at the workshop.

Quick answers

Will a jeweller resize a ring for free?

At Vero, yes. Free resizing is included for life on every ring we make, with no limit. Most rings are resized two or three times in a lifetime.

How long does ring resizing take?

At Vero, while you wait, by appointment.

How much does ring resizing cost?

For Vero rings, nothing. It's covered by our lifetime warranty. We don't resize rings from other jewellers.

What rings cannot be resized?

Eternity bands and some settings are harder. We almost always find a solution.

Why does my ring feel tight some days?

Fingers change with temperature, salt, alcohol and time of day. Wear your ring for a while before deciding to resize.
